Bentuk Morfologi

Lalat Buah memiliki panjang kurang dari 5mm, umumnya memiliki panjang sekitar 2-3mm. lalat buah memiliki ciri khas pada badanya, yaitu terdapat belang di perutnya. Sebagian besar warna tubuh Lalat Buah berwarna cokelat kekuningan, dan memiliki mata majemuk berwarna merah. Untuk di Indonesia, kebanyakan jenis Lalat Buah berwarna hitam dan matanya juga berwarna hitam.

Lingkungan berkembang biak

Secara umum, selain dengan cahaya lalat dewasa sangat tertarik dengan tanaman yang membusuk, fermentasi getah, buah matang, jamur, dll.

Ekologi
  • Dari telur hingga dewasa dibutuhkan sekitar 10 hari.
  • Betina dewasa dapat bertelur lebih dari 1000 telur dalam satu bulan.
Karakteristik
  • Umumnya ditemukan dan menyebabkan masalah di pabrik makanan fermentasi (roti, pabrik bir, dll) karena mereka sangat tertarik terhadap bau fermentasi.
  • Ini merupakan salah satu jenis hama yang bermasalah, karena larva dapat memakan makanan meskipun sedikit, dan mereka dapat bereproduksi dalam waktu singkat.
